Post summer holiday news overload
Friday, September 4, 2015 23:23
Hello everyone, Corvus again. Yes I know I should be posting more here, looks like I saved up a lot stuff again for another big post.
But I have a good reason this time :) I just got back from my summer holiday. First my family and I spent a nice 10 days in Italy, then we went home for a couple of days and then spent another two weeks at the seaside in The Netherlands (like we do every year).
As you can expect after my previous post the Age of Sigmar box has taken up all of my hobby time last month.
I took the sprues with me to Italy together with a knife, cutters, glue and some other assembly gear. I managed to assemble all Sigmar models and three of the Chaos models. As usual with the more recent GW plastics assembly was a breeze and fun to do.
Then in the last two weeks I spend a couple of nights painting the basic rank & file Sigmarites. Progress seemed slow (only the armour is finished now), but I guess the hardest work has been done already.
Here's what I have so far:
The partially painted Sigmarites, the blue has only been basecoated.
The Chaos characters assembled:
Other Sigmar models, assembled and primed:

This little sheet displays my color choices. So the turqoise is going to be my main color for the shields, shoulder pads etc, while the violet is going to be the secondary color.
But the rest of the project will have to wait a bit since this guy is now waiting to be painted: Belial of the Dark Angels, which is a commission job.
And in between I'm still doing quite some behind the scenes work. The plan is to create a new website and overall look for Corvus Miniatures at some point.
The new logo looks like this, I hope you like it :)

I'm on the final stretch with the Nomads.
Mobile Brigade is done except for the base:
And then this guy which I am painting up entirely on camera and if all goes well I will make a tutorial video about:

Desktop update May 2015 - Operation Icestorm
Monday, May 25, 2015 11:25
Hello everyone. Yes I know, updates have been lacking so far this year. It's almost June and only one post so far (Painting Crusade report). But it's not the first time this blog has gone quiet for a few months, it usually goes hand in hand with painting motivation, which comes and goes.
After finishing the TGCM Miniatures commission (work in progress here, but I did another batch of figures after that), I didn't really feel like immediately starting another project. The motivation would return after Painting Crusade I thought. But the fact that I did not take part in that event's painting competition made it feel a bit different. No inspirational boost which usually comes after winning (and even loosing) at a competition. So that proves that competing is much more important than winning I know now :)
Anyway a few months back I bought the Infinity starter box Operation Icestorm, on which I am now slowly working.

More pictures to follow soon :)

Starting with the PanOceania forces. As usual with this kind of projects I'm going for a good gaming standard, focusing on contrast rather than smoothness. But the sculpts are amazing, so that really helps.

Holiday update 2014
Tuesday, December 30, 2014 21:14
Hey everyone, a quick update post which will probably be the last one of 2014. So I'll grab this opportunity to wish you all happy holidays and already a happy 2015!
The last couple of weeks I've mainly been working on a big commission consisting of a batch of figures for the 52mm skirmish game Briskars by TGCM Creations. The casting quality isn't the greatest, but it has been fun painting these figures so far.
Here are four figures from the Quintors faction, as good as finished:
Another batch I finished are these dodo's, which are in fact objective markers.
After this there are 4 figures for the monkey faction left.
See you next year! :)

Desktop update November 2014

Hey everyone, quick roundup of what's been on my desk lately.

These are some Infinity Morats I finished a while ago, I haven't shown them on the blog I think. Good pictures incoming :)
Stephen Rao is also finished, except for the base.

And this is the figure I am currently painting, a Malifaux Flesh Construct.

I'm also testing out a new photo setup, black backdrop and more room for armies etc. Results of the first test will be shown here soon :)

Infinity Morats on the desk and SMC coming up!

It's that time of year again (yes time flies): Scale Model Challenge is upon us! Just like the last two years I will have a table at the club area together with my regular partners in crime: Maartje, Pascal and Geert. Please don't be shy and stop by for a chat!
In case you missed it, check out my 2013 and 2012 reports and the SMC website.
And did I mention Infinity? Yes! Lately this fantastic line of figures seems to have gotten even better, so I could resist picking up some of the more recent sculpts. These guys are called the Morate Vanguard Infantry. Going for a good gaming quality paintjob here, with the emphasis on contrast. I hope you like them!

Project PC-XI

One month to go before Painting Crusade IX! Just in time I found enough inspiration to start working on last year's special edition figure. Just as last year the goal is to get a prize in the special category at the competition :)
I decided to spice up the posable robot a bit with some battle damage and photo-etch. The little girl on the base is Rose by Hasslefree Miniatures.
Some impressions from last year's Painting Crusade:

Haqqislam Remote WIP 2
Wednesday, October 30, 2013 22:22
Weathering has started. In the past I already experimented with some minor scratches, but something all-over like this is new for me. I'm not entirely happy about it, some regions simply look too messy but it's something I will try out more in the future.
The metallics need some weathering and rust effect as well. When that is done then some small details (like the lenses) still have to painted, probably using light blue.

New project: Haqqislam Remote from the Infinity line. Going for a limited pallet, together with some heavy weathering (chipping and rust).

Brood Master WIP 1
Sunday, September 8, 2013 10:17
I bought the amazing Brood Master sculpt by Taban Miniatures at last year's Crisis. Below is a picture I took from the figure at the Taban booth, where they were showcasing their Eden skirmish game. If you look carefully you see two versions of this figure, the one on the back has an extra bit attached (you can see a pole rising from behind his back).
Here's the figure, really loving that creepy little girl clenched to him :) It will be a big challenge to paint this figure, there are so many focus points.
It was this pole that got me the idea for the base. This top-heavy piece has only one small attachment point with the figure, thus making the whole very fragile. So the initial plan was to mount this on a bit of steel wire attached to the base, for extra stability. But that idea got a bit out of hand. I decided to make a triangular construction, by making the steel wire going through the bottom of the plinth (which is actually the packaging of my iPod Shuffle :) where it is stuck in place with Milliput. To add a bit more variation I attached some plastic and balsa. Then I started with the ropes. I attached one bit of thread on a steel wire hook, and in two other places they are attached to resin bits (by Pardulon). Then the base was covered with Vallejo White Pumice and more detailing was added. When this is dry I will probably add some more fine detail: sand, plants, ...
Here I'm holding the figure in place with a pair of tweezers.
Can't wait to start painting :)

Back with some goblins!
Sunday, September 1, 2013 23:02
Wow, 3 months without updates! What have I been up to?
After a long and cold winter and spring, I have been doing like most of people here in Belgium: enjoying the nice weather. We had a fantastic summer and I spent a lot of time outside with the kids and on my racing bicycle. And of course there were some holidays as well :) Something less fun that happened to me were some problems with my lower back... just sitting, standing, sleeping was all very painfull, let alone hunching forward over a miniature. So that also kept me from the painting table as well the last couple of weeks.
But now that summer is coming to an end, inspiration and motivation are returning. I decided to gently get back in the flow by continuing The Hobbit set. Working on the second batch of gobling warriors and some of the characters, including the Goblin King.

With some painting competitions coming up in the near future I also started working on a new showcase project, but that's something for the next blog post :)
