Let's start with the Drune unit first. I've made a display base for them, and also decided to leave one "rank & file" guy out of the unit, to save a little bit of work. The last couple of days I've been trying my brush on a miniature called "Jebzakkah B'Ork, Bayour Chieftain" by Warploque Miniatures. Quite a big figure in fact, it shows that my skills with larger scale models need more practice. But it's a fun figure to paint. Started working on a new miniatures tonight: a Vanguard Trooper by Studio McVey. It's the first time I try out one of their figures and I'm a bit disappointed in a way. For some obscure reason the metal figure comes in 4 parts: legs, torso, head and the arms which hold a weapon. What I find strange is that the body with the head isn't one piece, and then the arms with the weapon a second part.

This VoodooWorx resin plinth has been in my drawer for quite a while now. I always found the stairs too big for a 28mm figure. But since Bregan is a lot bigger than the average 28mm figure it perfectly suits the base. I added an extra touch to it with some skulls and plant roots.

Some of the best basing materials can be found outdoors, even in your own garden. A nice touch to any base is a tree stump, a branch, a dead tree. Unless your sculpting skills are far more superior than mine, the easiest way to achieve a realistic effect for these is to use natural materials. Small twigs are nice to simulate tree stumps or fallen trunks, as used on my Red Karnagh Drune's base.

Here it finally is, a picture of my new painting desk. As you might notice there are two desks. There's one for assembly and basing (that's my old desk) and dedicated desk for painting. This white table has regular legs on one side, and drawers on the other but these are mostly empty since my old desk offers plenty of storage space. Finished the cloak of The Keeper earlier this week, and today I tried to introduce some color into the figure with some glazes. Assembling and basing for this little diorama has been very fun, but unfortunately the priming didn't go so smoothly. Since a few months I'm using Army Painter primer. Great stuff, but the can sprays a lot more primer than your usual canned varnish or primer. I primed the skeleton first, so he got way too much primer on him. Especially the skull and most of the frontal areas, such as the shield.

As mentioned in previous posts (this one for example) I'm painting up a unit of Deathwing Terminators for the online painting competition at Bolter & Chainsword. Basecoating and shading is done on the unit. I've used quite some bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue together with some icons made with my green stuff press mold technique.
